Michael Tartsinis has extensive shipping experience and has participated in ownership and management of bulk carriers. Since 1998 more than 30 vessels have been bought, sold and operated under his supervision.Born and raised in Athens, Michael studied Economics and Shipping in Greece and the United States and holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from New York University in both disciplines. He is also a licensed Certified Chartered Accountant in the UK since 1997. Michael’s first employment was with Ernst and Young where he qualified as a chartered accountant, experience which provided him with an insight on how to run a business successfully. He then moved to a small shipping company in Piraeus which operated six bulk carriers. His work there from 1998 to 2002 exposed him to all aspects of shipping – finance, operations, insurance, claims and chartering.
After leaving that company, Michael started looking for the opportunity to buy his own vessels, a case of being the right man in the right place at the right time. In that year the shipping market was rising before the big boom. Together with partners, Michael managed to buy his first vessel in 2003, a dry bulk Handysize built in 1978.
